We had this great sighting of a group of Southern Ground Hornbill in the Kruger.

A great sighting of these endangered birds. Any birder on a birding safari would appreciate how special such a sighting is, and one that can be ticked off on your life list.

These birds are mostly endangered due to their breeding habits and destruction of there natural habitat by the ever expanding human population. The are large birds with the males weighing in anywhere from 3 – 6kg. They are good flyers, but spend a lot of time on the ground as this is where they find their primary food source of lizards, snakes, frogs, and small mammals.
